During 2020, the United States faced two crises that endangered the values and principles that have made of the country the largest liberal democracy in the world. The COVID-19 pandemic and the social crises caused by the anti-racist protests have not only occurred in a important year due to the presidential elections of 2020, but they also coincided with a president whose management of both situations was controversial. This article aims to analyze the different actions of President Donald Trump towards these events in order to establish himself as the candidate of "law and order", leading to unseen questioning of the country’s democratic institutions. This analysis will use the theoretical premises of securitization proposed by Buzan, Wæver and de Wilde.
